Porto Santo once again establishes itself as one of the major international stages for open water swimming. On May 23rd and 24th, 2026, the island will host the National Spring Championship and the Madeira Island Ultra Swim (MIUS), an event that has already gathered nearly 600 registrations from 17 countries.
Over two days of competition, athletes and open water enthusiasts will take on different distances - 1.5km, 3km, 5km, 7.5km and 10km - in a unique setting defined by Porto Santo’s crystal-clear waters and its iconic golden sandy beach.
Among the participants will be some of the leading national figures in open water swimming, including Angélica André, Diogo Cardoso, Francisco Amaral and Mafalda Rosa, further raising the competitive level and international prestige of the event.
More than just a competition, the Madeira Island Ultra Swim is a celebration of sport, endurance and the connection with the sea, providing an unforgettable experience for both athletes and spectators attending this remarkable weekend dedicated to open water swimming.
