Our Lady of Mercy festivities

On the last weekend of August, the Feast of Our Lady of Piedade, the patron saint of Porto Santo, is celebrated in the centre of Vila Baleira. This traditional festival attracts many tourists to the island and is celebrated with great enthusiasm.

The religious part of the festivities, which include the procession, is followed by food and drink and a lot of entertainment. There is always music and many spontaneous groups give life to these festivities.

On August 29, the celebrations begin with the Novena and Romagem, followed by performances by the Porto Santo Folklore Group, Nélia and Armindo and DJ Michael. On August 30, the Solemn Mass and Procession take place, followed by live music and entertainment from the Banda Musical da Casa do Povo de Nossa Senhora da Piedade, Amigos do Cantar, Marcial and Silvio. Over both days, the celebration continues into the evening with music, entertainment and a lively atmosphere in the centre of Vila Baleira.
