Carnival 2025
February 28th to March 4th2025
On Friday, February 28th, the Carnival celebrations will kick off with a parade of local school students, promising color, rhythm, and joy. The procession will start at the Community Center and will be accompanied by the street entertainment act Duendes Inconstantes. Concluding at Praça do Barqueiro, the festivities will continue with a performance by Vanusca e as Amigas da Pequenada. Still dedicated to the younger crowd, on March 1st, the Municipal Library will host a Carnival Workshop starting at 3:00 PM. Organized by the library’s educational service, this event aims to explore the playful aspect of Carnival with children, fostering creativity and sparking their interest in festive traditions, while preserving cultural heritage. On March 4th, Entrudo day, the Cortejo Trapalhão (the playful, satirical parade) will take to the streets, featuring Madeira’s Animad and Geringonça troupes. This event is organized by the cultural department of the Porto Santo municipality. The parade will start at the Community Center and wind through the main streets of Vila Baleira. The vibrant celebrations will culminate at the Municipal Square, where prizes will be awarded for the best costumes in various categories, followed by a lively performance by Roda de Samba Melro Preto.
